This exhibit is “an opportunity to experience artwork by Chicagoans of Japanese descent across generations. Although all the artists share traits based on blood, culture and history, the ways they have expressed themselves is a study in diversity.” Japanese American artists with connections to Chicago will be showing their creative endeavors beginning with Issei in Chicago before WWII as well as Issei arriving later, JAs of all generations, all ages, and all kinds of art are included. Come see the art of Issei photographers Jun Fujita and Shoji Osato, Issei calligraphy teacher Yoshinobu Matsumoto and Issei ink painting teacher Ryozo Ogura. Check out the Nisei art treasures of Mary Koga, Tak Murakami, Shinkichi Tajiri, and Art Towata. View art of more recent teachers, Laura Kina, Joyce Nagata, Akemi Nakano Cohn, and Sarah Nishiura. They have exhibited broadly, even overseas. You can enjoy the glass work of Sharon Fujimoto, jewelry of Donna Kato, porcelain work of Yukiko Sakata Nylan, and art of many, many more Chicago Japanese American artists.
